Town Attorney Expected to Report on Flock Camera Review in October



On August 10, Easton Town Council President Don Abbatiello said that he had forwarded our proposed ordinance to the town attorney for review. He also said the attorney’s office was examining what the Town could do to limit the use of Flock cameras in Easton.
With more than a month having passed, I contacted him again and asked:
Has the town attorney completed the review or provided any preliminary findings? Does the Council intend to consider an ordinance addressing fixed-point ALPR surveillance and access to the data it produces? What are the next steps, and when might the public expect further action? I also reiterated that although the Town does not currently operate Flock cameras, the underlying concern remains unresolved. People traveling through Easton are still being recorded and entered into a privately controlled surveillance system without suspicion of any crime.
Council President Abbatiello replied:
Mr. Bauer,
I understand your desire for answers and a response. Since we have a multitude of issues going on in town I asked the town attorney to report back to us in October. She was already involved in several projects when you made your request and submitted your proposed ordinance. If she finishes her research early, I will definitely let you know.

This gives us a clearer timeline. The proposed ordinance remains under review, and the town attorney is expected to report to the Council in October. We will continue following the matter and provide another update when that report is available.
